I managed to capture a few images showing no visible wing bars that are very pronounced in a Western Tanager. However, this bird did show some reddish markings on the wings. After doing some further research online and in conversing with other birders via the Connecticut Birds Facebook group, the identification was solidified.
So, when you might be stumped by a bird you see in the field, watch for those field marks!
